With the end of a school year, a lot of parents worry about keeping their kids’ academic skills fresh during the summer months. My little one is making the leap from elementary school to middle school this year, and I am a bit concerned about how she’ll adjust to pre-algebra. Fortunately, Kumon Math and Reading has activities and classes designed to keep children from falling behind over the summer. The interesting thing about Kumon is that they tailor a program specifically for your child. This means that even if your child is in advanced classes but needs help on a specific area (such as long division, which was a big struggle in our home,) the instructor can use your child’s strengths to build their self-esteem while sneaking in some remedial work on the difficult areas. Kumon offers instruction in math and reading, and for pre-school aged children there are classes designed to give them a leg-up in those areas so they’ll hit the ground running.
