We’re such a car-centered society, we seldom consider cycling as a form of transportation. But many citizens are rethinking this assumption. As gas prices soar and central Arkansas cities become more bike friendly, it only makes sense to reconsider the bicycle as a means of local travel.

The city of North Little Rock is increasingly becoming a great place to cycle, and the Fit 2 Live initiative is making cycling safer for family members of all ages. The upcoming Traffic Skills 101 class will help transform everyday cyclists into experts. Designed to teach adult cyclists how to use a bicycle with confidence, this workshop will help you learn how to bike for pleasure or practicality in various traffic conditions, over different forms of terrian, and in all kinds of weather.

This class is also the first step to becoming a certified League Cycling Instructor. Regardless of your cycling goals, this class can help you prepare to become a safer cyclist, confident in all situations.

Here’s what you can expect in the 9-hour course:

• Instruction (4 hours – complete online at www.bikeed.org),
• Parking lot drills, and
• On road cycling.

You can take the classroom instruction portion online at bikeed.org and then sign up for the hands-on class on:

Saturday, August 25th 7:30 AM – 12:30 PM

To Pre-register for the course or for more information, contact: Willa Williams, League Cycling Instructor and Fit 2 School Coordinator for the City of North Little Rock wwilliams@nullnorthlittlerock.ar.gov or call 501-350-7682.

Future dates will be held on September 22 (girls only!) and October 27, 2012.
